Dr. Kelvin Tan Guoping is a Senior Consultant and Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon at Singapore Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic (SSOC) with over 15 years of clinical experience. He brings extensive expertise in hip and knee reconstructive surgeries, robotic joint replacement, revision operations, and sports injury management. Dr. Kelvin earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (2007) and Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery from the National University of Singapore, became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2015, and is registered with the Singapore Specialist Accreditation Board. He offers consultations and care in English, Mandarin, Teochew, and Hokkien

In 2017, Dr. Kelvin completed a prestigious international Orthopaedic fellowship under Professor Ross Crawford in Brisbane, Australia. His fellowship training focused on advanced techniques in Robotic-Assisted Joint Replacements, Primary and Revision Hip and Knee Reconstructive surgeries, Complex Hip Reconstruction—including Impaction Bone Grafting for failed hip replacements or Congenital Hip Dysplasia—and Peri-Prosthetic Fracture Fixation. With a surgical portfolio of over 1,800 cases in Singapore, Dr. Kelvin Tan brings deep expertise in both routine orthopaedic procedures and advanced reconstructive surgeries.

In his current practice at SSOC, Dr. Kelvin utilizes state-of-the-art technologies such as Robotics and Computer Navigation for performing total and unicompartmental (partial) knee replacements, as well as total hip replacements. Having performed over 500 MAKO robotic-arm assisted joint replacements (MAKOplasty), he is one of the region’s certified MAKO Robotic Trainers. He is also highly proficient in modern surgical techniques, including the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) for total hip replacement.

Prior to joining SSOC, Dr. Kelvin served as the Head of the Adult Reconstruction / Joint Replacement Unit and Senior Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He was the Clinical Champion for the TTSH Knee Replacement Clinical Pathway and Clinical Lead for the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Knee Replacement Taskforce across TTSH and the National Healthcare Group. He was instrumental in developing ERAS protocols that significantly improved patient outcomes while reducing hospital stays and transitioning knee replacements toward ambulatory care. His commitment led him to Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Scotland and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in the UK in 2019 as part of a prestigious Ministry of Health HMDP Scholarship.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Kelvin is deeply involved in leadership, academia, and research. He serves as the Chairman of the Singapore Arthroplasty Society and represents Singapore at the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association (APOA). He holds academic appointments as Adjunct Assistant Professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), and teaches at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Furthermore, he serves as a Core Clinical Faculty Member and Clinical Competencies Committee Member for the National Healthcare Group Orthopaedic Residency Program, acts as an undergraduate and postgraduate examiner, and regularly publishes in peer-reviewed medical journals while training surgeons across Asia.
